Glenlivet 1940 – 80 Year Old – G&M Generations On 3rd February 1940 in a quiet corner in the north of Scotland, George Urquhart and his father, John,

had the extraordinary foresight and vision to lay down spirit from Glenlivet Distillery in a bespoke Gordon & MacPhail cask to be enjoy by future generations. Refer to by renown whisky writer Charlie MacLean as ‘the father of single malt’,

George Urquhart passionately believe that each whisky should be left to mature until the cask and spirit had combine to create the desire  quality, and it was ready to be share.

The time for Cask 340 was to be 80 years – longer than any other Scotch whisky in history.

On 5th February 2020, leaning on the unique skill and experience acquire over more than 125 years, the decision was taken to finally bottle the cask’s precious out-turn,

yielding a total of 250 decanters.

Glenlivet 1940 – 80 Year Old – G&M Generations,

it’s the oldest single malt Scotch Whisky (or any other whisky) ever bottle. It was distille on February 3, 1940,

shortly before World War II force distillers to cut their production significantly because of grain rationing

(a prelude to the overall shutdown of whisky distilling so that distillers could produce alcohol for military fuel use).

After 80 years, the cask was empty  on February 5,

2020 and held in a well-guard vat until the 250 bespoke

decanters and cases design by Sir David Adjaye could be produce
